Frequently Asked Questions

The questions people actually ask before a visit to Anne Kolb Nature Center.

What are Anne Kolb Nature Center's hours?

The nature center and exhibit hall are open daily, 9 AM to 5 PM. The surrounding West Lake Park grounds and trails keep longer hours, 8 AM to 6 PM daily. The kayak and canoe marina runs its own shorter, weather-dependent schedule, typically Saturday through Monday.

Is there an admission fee?

The nature center's exhibit hall, aquarium, and observation tower are free to visit. West Lake Park's main vehicle entrance charges a small per-person fee on weekends and holidays; other access points and the nature center's own parking are free.

Can I rent a kayak or canoe?

Yes, at the West Lake Park marina, which rents single and double kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards for exploring three marked paddling trails through the mangroves. Call the marina at (954) 357-5186 for current rates and hours before you go, since its schedule is shorter and more weather-dependent than the nature center's.

Is the observation tower accessible?

Yes. The 68-foot tower has five levels reachable by either stairs or an elevator, with open-air viewing at the top.

Are pets allowed?

Pets are not allowed on the nature center grounds or trails.

Do I need a permit to fish?

Yes. Fishing from the Intracoastal pier is catch-and-release only, and a valid Florida fishing license is required. None are sold on site.

Can I bike on the trails?

Biking is permitted on the shellrock South Trail, which runs over 3 miles in loops and spurs. Bicycles and skating are not allowed on the boardwalk trails, including the Lake Observation and Mudflat Trails.

How do I book Mangrove Hall for an event?

Mangrove Hall and the outdoor amphitheater are booked through Broward County Parks & Recreation's facility rental office rather than the nature center's front desk — call (954) 357-5161 and ask to be connected, or check broward.org/Parks for rental contact details.
